Self-Directed Services

Within the self-directed model, individuals have the right to make decisions about, direct the provisions of, and control the services received. This includes selecting, training, managing, paying, and dismissing of an attendant. The individual or individual's representative has decision making authority over certain services and takes direct responsibility to manage their services. Two options are available for self-direction:

Personal Care Services / Financial Management Services (PCS / FMS) and Limited License.

Personal Care Service (PCS)

PCS is available to individuals who choose to self-direct their day, residential, or in-home family support services. PCS provides necessary one-on-one assistance for beneficiaries both in their home and community. It involves personal assistants ensuring the health and welfare of a beneficiary. The individual receives assistance with tasks typically done independently to promote productivity, integration, and inclusion.

Financial Management Services (FMS)

FMS provides administrative tasks, information, and assistance to those choosing to self-direct services. All PCS must be paid through a FMS provider who will account for all payroll deductions including taxes, unemployment, and worker's compensation, as applicable.

Limited License Services

One of the self-direct models is a limited license. Applicants of limited license must have a previous relationship with the person seeking services or specialized skills that would be necessary to support the person that are not readily available in the current service system.

An individual or guardian may obtain a Limited License to provide Day and/or Residential Services. Limited Licensed providers are limited in the number of individuals they are able to support and are affliated with the CDDO. For more information regarding Limited Licensed services, please contact the CDDO at (785) 621-5346.

Self-Directed Services are available in all 18 counties of Northwest Kansas.
